Method, definitions and limits

This snapshot describes the eligible price rows in the current curated catalog. It does not claim to represent every installer or every completed purchase in the United States.

Ceramic coating

Ceramic-coating rows using per-vehicle, “from” or unspecified whole-job units; row midpoints below $200 are excluded. Starting prices and unspecified units may not establish full-vehicle coverage.

Current sample: 2,201 observations from 708 distinct businesses.

Paint protection film

PPF rows using per-vehicle, “from” or unspecified whole-job units. Starting prices and unspecified units may describe selected panels rather than full-body coverage.

Current sample: 343 observations from 128 distinct businesses.

Paint correction

Paint-correction rows using per-vehicle, “from” or unspecified whole-job units. Starting prices, stages and the initial paint condition vary.

Current sample: 669 observations from 330 distinct businesses.

How the figures are calculated

  1. Use only advertised price entries assigned to the matching service and a whole-job unit.
  2. Convert a listed low–high range to its midpoint; an exact listed price keeps that value.
  3. Report the 25th percentile as the low end of the typical range, the median, and the 75th percentile as the high end.
  4. Require prices from at least five distinct businesses before publishing an aggregate. Multiple eligible packages from one business can contribute multiple observations.

Advertised rates are not quotes, invoices, a representative survey or a guarantee. Vehicle size, paint condition, coverage, product, correction stages, taxes and required maintenance can change a real quote. The update date identifies this aggregate snapshot; it does not mean every source price was observed on that date.

Know what the market is actually charging

Once a month, read off the price lists of the 570 shops that publish one. Whether you are about to buy or about to quote, it is the same data from opposite sides.

For people about to spend four figures on paint, and wanting to spend it once.

  • What shops are actually chargingWhen the published price bands move in your state, and by how much. You will know whether a quote is normal before you are sitting in the office.
  • What a quote should spell outThe lines that separate a real quote from a number: correction stages, the warranty terms, what happens if it fails.
  • Aftercare that changes the outcomeThe few things that decide whether a coating reaches its term, and the ordinary products that quietly end it early.
